What are implant-retained dentures?
An implant-retained denture, often called a snap-in or overdenture, is a denture that clicks onto attachments fitted to two, three or four implants. The implants do the gripping your shrinking gums no longer can: the denture seats with a positive click, stays put through meals and conversation, and lifts out at night for cleaning.
It occupies the sweet spot between conventional dentures and fixed implant bridges: dramatically more stable than the former, roughly half the cost of the latter, and, for many patients, the removability is a feature, not a compromise: cleaning is as simple as it's always been, just without the wobble in between.

Who Snap-In Dentures Help
Lower dentures have almost nothing to grip, two implants change everything. It's dentistry's most reliable quality-of-life upgrade.
The floating lower

The daily paste ritual
When adhesive is structural rather than occasional, the denture has already failed. Implant retention retires the tube permanently.
The pragmatic middle
Fixed arches from £9,000; retained dentures from £5,000. For many, the click delivers most of the benefit at half the cost.
Gums that gave up
Decades in dentures flatten the ridge until nothing fits. Implants restore the anchor the anatomy lost.

Implant-Retained Dentures FAQs
If your denture is sound and fits the new plan, retention housings can often be fitted into it, sometimes the same day the attachments go on. Older or worn dentures are better remade; we tell you which honestly at the scan.
No. The attachments are engineered to release only with a deliberate lifting motion you'll learn in seconds. Chewing forces push the denture onto the implants, not off them.
Physics and anatomy: lowers fail by lifting, and two anchors stop that; uppers are larger, fight gravity, and their bone is softer, four points of retention is the reliable standard.
Yes, the nylon inserts are consumables, refreshed in minutes at maintenance visits, typically every 12–18 months. Budget pennies-a-day; it's the entire upkeep story.
We advise out at night: your gums rest, the denture soaks, and the attachments get cleaned. Occasional nights in won't harm anything.
Often, yes, implants placed for retention can sometimes join a future fixed plan, and at minimum the route stays open. We plan positions with that possibility in mind.
